Waste wood

More waste wood for wood-based panels.

Too much waste wood still goes straight to incineration – its potential for material recycling is far from exhausted. We improve the use of waste wood for wood-based panels with four coordinated steps.

1 Pre-sorting at intake Quality starts at intake 2 Shredding & screening The right particle size for sorting 3 Sensor-based sorting Pure fractions instead of mixed grades 4 Fraction-specific recycling Each fraction into the right process

Step 1

Pre-sorting at intake

The quality of the future panel starts with the delivery. Defining and separating grades at intake – for example furniture panels separately from construction and formwork timber – relieves the downstream sorting and protects the processing machines.

  • Defining and developing grades and qualities
  • Coordinating intake with waste producers and recycling companies
  • Quality control of incoming material flows
Step 2

Shredding & screening

The pre-sorted waste wood is shredded and screened. This produces material of a defined particle size – the prerequisite for the sensors in the following sorting step to reliably detect and separate every piece.

  • Shredding to a particle size suitable for sorting
  • Screening out fines and oversize
  • Matching the processing to the downstream recycling

Step 3

Sensor-based sorting

Sensors detect the material on the conveyor and separate standard waste wood grades into pure fractions: solid wood, particleboard, fibreboard and plywood. Effective cleaning of the material is possible at the same time.

  • Design, commissioning and optimisation of sorting plants
  • Purity and yield proven in our own pilot plant
  • Machine selection together with suppliers of sensor-based sorting technology

Step 4

Fraction-specific recycling of the sorted wood-based materials

Only pure fractions make targeted recycling possible: each fraction is fed into the recycling process that suits it and so becomes raw material for new wood-based panels again.

  • Building routes from the waste producer via the recycler to the panel producer
  • Developing and testing recycling processes for the individual fractions
  • New products and applications based on waste wood
