project management: pilot plant for waste wood sorting
Sensor-based sorting is the basis for efficient and increased material utilization of waste wood in various wood-based materials, not just particleboard. This process separates standard market mixes into pure fractions—solid wood, particleboard, fiberboard, and plywood—which are then fed into specialized recycling processes. Efficient cleaning of the material is also possible.
In collaboration with machine manufacturers and a provider of sensor-based sorting technology, we planned, commissioned, and optimized a pilot plant for recycled wood sorting. We were able to demonstrate the level of purity, optimal yield, and specific steps required to produce the required qualities and new product groups. This work and the resulting insights form the basis for further plant planning, recycling technologies, and recycled wood product groups.

sourcing and quality control of recycled wood
We organize the necessary material flows for users of recycled wood. Our work involves collaborating with users and wood recyclers not only to ensure the required volume of recycled wood is available, but also to focus on the quality and composition of the material.
This allows for more effective use of the recycled wood, reduces the strain on processing machinery, and enhances value creation. It also opens up new applications for recycled wood.

development and patenting of a lightweight bamboo panel
For a startup in Berlin, we developed and patented a new type of lightweight panel made from natural bamboo and bamboo plywood.
The primary focus was on using the excellent mechanical properties of bamboo in construction, and the panels were designed for industrial production.
Not only has the design been filed for a patent, but also the manufacturing process, which was planned in collaboration with machine manufacturers.

development and patenting of lightweight panels for the construction industry
One of the planned applications for the lightweight bamboo panel is the construction industry.
The design has been modified, and the surface has been coated and tested. In addition to bamboo, other types of wood and wood-based materials have been evaluated and used.

development of lightweight panels for packaging and the transportation industry
Based on the transport pallet, the production line is designed to manufacture lightweight panels for the transportation industry.
These panels can be used as cover panels, support panels, or for transport crates.

development, patenting, and commissioning
of the production line for a stackable lightweight pallet
Lightweight construction is a key consideration in the transportation industry. For this reason, we have further developed the lightweight design into a resource-efficient transport pallet and launched the production line for it. A patent application has been filed for the design and manufacturing process.
In collaboration with machine builders, adhesive manufacturers, and wood-based material producers, a new product and the corresponding production facility have been developed.
The transport pallet was awarded the German Packaging Prize in 2019.
